I try and form judgement based soly on sound.

I question their ability to replicate booming basslines with a natural percussion set.

isnt that a bit contradicting mate? or am i missing something

That is not what I intended for.  But i still don't see those statements as contradicting. Actually they were meant to support each other.  Maybe I am missing something.  When I watched that video I didn't hear booming basslines coming from the drummer, it sounded more similiar to rock percussion.  Which I felt was a poor job at expressing the dnb sound.  (To me thats the best part,  having my rib cage rattle like a maraca... ) That judgment was formed based soly on their sound.

it is a poor job assuming that they were going for more of a dnb sound over rock, but maybe they werent? '_'(on that track), its hard to say either way for sure, imo tho purpose/intent shouldnt factor into the sound of a track if ones trying to judge solely on the sound, most of the time personal preference will just get in the way of objectivity(you prefering dnb break over rock), thats why i was a bit confused when i read, whatevs tho

just got home, i re-enacted this video for the 1000th time

Ronald Jenkee's first album (hiiiiighly anticipating 2nd album due in december).  He's like a doper, crazier, Eliot Lipp that plays completely by ear.  Here's something from his new album coming out:

SOMEBODY SIGN THIS DUDE!  i vote Hydeout Productions (Nujabes, Emancipator) or Hefty Records (owned by Prefuse 73, E. Lipp is on there too).

Commix - Underwater Scene

Commix - Japanese Electronics

there is also a remix of this last track. I believe it's still unreleased though.  You can hear it on Commix myspace. Sounds better than the original imo.

a new favorite. I can't get over the melody on this track.  I love it.
